Tara Badcock PARIS + TASMANIA was born one spring day in Paris in 2005, while I was seeking ways to alleviate my homesickness for Tasmania, marrying it to my Design identity which evolved in Paris during my three years of residence there. Themes of beauty and utility, cultural identity, social and collective memory, and personal experience from the basis for individual pieces I create, which range from homewares (cushions and elaborate curtains and wall panles), fashion, accessories and my ongoing Teacosy* Revolution project. Through a combination of textile manipulation and stitching/hand embroidery techniques, I seek to connect with a deeply ingrained human tradition of communicating both grand and worldly ideas, as well as private and intimate concepts. During the past three years I have built upon my skills and creative talents and am now becoming recognized internationally as a Tasmanian textile artist and designer (please refer to supplied support material), with press acknowledgement in publications and journals such as U.K textiles magazine Selvedge (www.selvedge.org), Australian House and Garden, Australian Notebook magazine, Textile Art Fibre Forum magazine, Australian Country Style, Triple J Arts, local newspapers and Sunrise (T.V).
